As we continue to stay active as we age, foot problems, such as plantar fasciitis, bunions and metatarsalgia (pain in the ball of the foot) may become more common. Luckily surgery does not have to be part of the solution.
Basic stretching exercises can be helpful for both treating and preventing foot ailments. A few of these you can even do without getting off the sofa.
- Improve foot flexibility by tracing the letters of the alphabet with your feet. This exercise will move your foot through its entire range of motion.
- Resistance bands. Extend your leg straight in front of you. Wrap the band around the sole of your foot then flex and point.
- Roll it. Roll a tennis ball back and forth under each foot for a few minutes a day to massage and loosen fascia.
